- TravertineTravertine While it may seem that the present wild popularity of Travertine is a trend, the reality is that this stone has been used as a building material for thousands of years – and for good reason. Incredibly long-lasting and resistant to wear-and-tear, Travertine remains today in place on structures such as Rome’s Colosseum, and the Spanish Steps. Few building materials can deliver centuries of longevity, but Travertine is one that can, in the right conditions. Compare that to concrete’s practical lifespan, of about 30-60 years, and the appeal of using this material is clear. Travertine is perfect for use in a diverse range of applications, including as pavers, tiles, building material, as a cladding product and in interiors. Like granite, this stone possesses impressive self-cleaning properties that reduce ongoing maintenance requirements. Weatherproof and aesthetically pleasing, travertine can be used in bathrooms, pools, inside and outside. We do recommend sealing when used in or around saltwater pools, for optimal protection. - Limestone/MarbleLimestone Customers are often surprised to discover that limestone can come in a spectrum of colours and shades, ranging from white, all the way through to black, with many variants between. Closely related to both travertine and marble, limestone possesses similar qualities to each. It has been formed from travertine, or similar stones, with added heat, pressure and time working to provide its particular qualities. Effectively a transition stone between travertine and marble, limestone is slightly more porous than marble. Its colours can range from consistent or flat, through to wild, delivering similar swirls and natural patterns to what is seen in some marbles. Limestone’s broad varieties ensure that different types are suitable for different applications. Certain types are better suited for use indoor, while others are more at home in the open environment. Exceptionally hardy and long-lasting, limestone will last for centuries in many circumstances. Most variants are flame resistant, weather resistant and possess great self-cleaning properties. - SandstoneSandstone The mere name of this stone evokes images of ivy league universities, concert halls, museums and European facades. Sandstone delivers a classical elegance that is timeless in its appeal. Its soft look and feel and natural insulating properties continue to make this building material a popular choice around luxury homes and for use in facades within the centre of master-planned communities, schools and university campuses. While sandstone does require a little more maintenance than granite, marble or travertine due to its slightly more porous structure, this porosity is one of its chief strengths. Sandstone warms up slowly and cools down slowly, retaining heat at night, while feeling cool to the touch during the day. This is ideal for energy conservation and insulation. In terms of use, sandstone remains a great choice for landscaping, pool coping, for use as a decorative stone, and on feature walls, in random arrangements. If used in and around pools, or when placed on blocks that are close to the beach and subject to sea spray, sandstone must be sealed. We recommend the Synergy product for sealing this particular stone.

- QuartzQuartz The crystalline, pearlescent structure of quartz delivers instant appeal in situations where you are looking for a product to naturally glisten. - TuscanTuscan This product is essentially a type of limestone, but has taken on an identity of its own in recent years due to the characteristic aesthetics that it delivers. There are types of Tuscan stone and tile that resemble and feel like slate, while others deliver the look and feel that would be expected from a dense, hard limestone. Tuscan stone also behaves in a somewhat unique fashion when mined and shaped. It can act and feel like a natural split product, due to the way that it is gathered from site. This contributes to its slate-like appearance. With entry-level ranges available, there are Tuscan options that can suit a range of budgets, and the stone is also flexible in its application. Often available uncalibrated, with varied thickness, Tuscan stone is great for use as a random stone, and its delivers a natural undulation. The Slate & Stone team can grade or calibrate the stone where a flat surface is desired. Tuscans are ideal for adding personality and a true natural stone look to outdoor areas.
